Road Runner Bureau of Land Management (BLM) 14 Day Camping Area in Quartzite, AZ: December 20, 2025 - January 3, 2026

After staying at La Posa South Long Term Visitors Area (LTVA) for two weeks we made our way to BLM's Road Runner 14 day Camping area. This BLM area is adjacent to La Posa Tyson Wash. There is a dirt road on Google Maps called Pipeline Road that separates the two BLM areas. LTVA Boundary signs were on one side of Pipeline Road and a couple of 14 day limits signs were on the other side of that road.

The Road Runner area is bounded by Pipeline Road, Old Yuma Road, North 53rd Street and a short section of AZ 95. For some reason Google Maps names North 53rd Street La Paz Valley Road. Regardless, we picked a spot close to PipeLine Road and about a mile east of Old Yuma Road. Here are pictures of the camper at the spot. The other camper in the background of the first picture is in the LTVA.

There were various signs for the camping area near the intersection of AZ 95 and North 53rd Street.

We never saw a host so we never ended up getting a permit. There was a car parked near the Host sign but I don't think they were the hosts and ended up leaving at some point during our stay. There was another camping area sign on Old Yuma Road that we passed by on a couple of bike rides. It was about 1/2 mile north of North 53rd Street on Old Yuma Road.
My bike route for this area was mostly traveling Pipeline Road to Old Yuma Road to La Posa West's paved Road and then back tracking. It was a relatively short ride (~10 miles) so once in a while I would travel all the way south to North 53rd Street on the return leg. The wind can be a factor and really slow you down when it's a headwind so on several of the days I was glad to just get away from the wind and have a little shorter ride. In addition, on my first bike ride in this area I ended up getting a flat tire. We were almost back to the camper, about 3/4 mile away, so I just walked the bike the rest of the way and patched the tube after returning. (Spoiler alert: the flat was due to a thorn and there are more flats to come as we stay in the area). We took advantage of La Posa Tyson Wash's trash receptacle on Old Yuma Road on our bike rides. The wife would bring a small bag of trash in a milk crate attached to her bike rack and we unloaded along the way. Otherwise, you need to store your trash while camping at Road Runner which has no facilities on site.

One other thing I meant to comment on about La Posa and Road Runner is that the areas are very clean with virtually no trash. This is in stark contrast to the BLM areas we stayed at near Grand Junction a month or two earlier. After our 14 day stay at Road Runner, our plan is to follow the BLM rules and go back to La Posa for another 14 day stay.
