28 January - 1 February, 2024: Kelly Park/Rock Springs in Apopka FL

Since we left the Grand Mesa National Forest in Colorado in September 2023 we have stayed with family in Virginia, New Hampshire, Georgia and Florida. Our next campground visit was Kelly Park campground in Apopka, FL. The park is one of five Orange County parks that include a campground facility. The day use portion features a spring fed tubing run we enjoyed about 5.5 years ago. We didn't brave the water this time since daytime high temperatures were in the 60s. The spring fed water is supposedly 72 degrees which other park visitors took advantage of.

Here is the camper at the park:

Here are pictures of Kelly Park's Rock Springs Run. The first picture is at the head of the springs/run. The next is of the intermediate section and the last picture is of the end of the run.

Kelly Park borders Wekiva Springs State Park. The state park has a different day use spring area. It has its own campground and a more extensive multi-use trail network. The trails within Kelly Park informally connect with those of the state park so I took advantage of the state park's trails to do some longer bike rides. The trails were gently sloping with some short soft sandy sections. When I first explored, some sections of the state park trails were also swampy. I was able to avoid those sections in subsequent rides. Here is a picture of the state park spring area:
Our current plans are to spend another long period made up of multiple family stays. We don't even know when or where our next campground stay will be, so until then happy days.
