Clearwater Lake Campground at Ocala National Forest: December 30, 2021 - January 2, 2022

Well it is getting close to the end of January and I am finally getting around to documenting the Clearwater Lake Campground visit at the end of December. A little more on the reasoning for the delay in addition to the typical procrastination to come later in this post.

Here is the rig at the Clearwater Lake Campground. We had a nice concrete pad as can be seen. What is not visible is a concrete sidewalk from the pad to the bathhouse (the roof of the bathhouse can be seen in the picture background on the right above the truck hood). We had seen concrete sidewalks from a campsite to the bathhouse at other campgrounds. Those sites had a handicap designation on the campsite post. This site may have been a handicap site also but there wasn't an obvious designation like at other campgrounds. Most of the sites at Clearwater weren't like this but there were more than one of this type at Clearwater.

There was a relatively short trail around the lake (about 1.5 miles) so we walked the trail soon after arriving. We saw a bird sunning in the lake and I saw a deer when I went out jogging one morning. Otherwise, the campground was mostly low key. It was warm and almost hot, I took a couple of dips in the lake during our stay.

Since it was almost hot and we weren't acclimated to the Florida climate as well as wanting to test out powering the camper air conditioner (AC) with the off grid solar system, we ran the AC one afternoon for a couple of hours. The system ran successfully but one issue was the inverter sensed a voltage drop when the AC kicked on and gave warning beep. The beep is livable for daytime use but would be very unwelcome at night for sleeping. So I've added defeating the inverter's warning beep before next summer to my to-do list. Other than the warning beep, I considered the AC/off grid system test successful and was happy to check off doing the test from my list.

We planned to use one of our timeshare weeks after Clearwater, so our next stop was a timeshare in the Orlando area that we could use as a base to visit with Jane's family. In addition to her parents and brother living in the Orlando area, her sister was visiting from Tennessee. We stayed fairly busy during the timeshare week for full time RVers and retirees (which really isn't all that busy) so I put off/procrastinated making this post. I figured I would catch up at our next campground in the Apalachicola National Forest. Since we had good exposure to cell service after leaving our NH campground, I didn't count on inadequate cell service preventing me from making this post while at Apalachicola but it did. The next post will be about our stay at Apalachicola where we stayed about two weeks.
